The Elohim are an extremely ancient pantheon of deities, with a mysterious and complex history. This does not mean that the Elohim are the same as Yahweh, the God of the Israelites, but rather that the Elohim predate the faith and are at times confused with God. It is believed that the Hebrews adopted the Elohim for their own religion, as the Elohim embodied broad aspects of the godhead that fit with the idea of a singular, all-powerful deity.
